Manatee Snorkel Encounter

Picture

Come along for an exciting day as we focus on Florida’s Gentle Giant, the West Indian Manatee.  Our destination is Citrus County, “The Nature Coast.”

In the morning, outfitted with wetsuits, masks, snorkels, and fins, we will take a pontoon boat to locate manatees in the cool, spring-fed waters.  During our manatee encounter, we’ll observe first-hand these sociable, threatened mammals.  We’ll study them "up close and personal" in their natural habitat and discover what they look
like, what they feel like, how they breathe, what they eat, and more!  We’ll also learn what threatens the manatee’s survival  and what we can do  to help.

We’ll spend time in the afternoon at Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park, a showcase for native Florida wildlife.  At this 166-acre park located at the headwaters of the Homosassa River, we’ll visit the Children’s Education Center and also see many examples of Florida wildlife (some endangered or threatened) such as gators, crocodiles, snakes, deer, Florida black bear, bobcats, otter, Florida panthers, manatees (underwater viewing), and a variety of birds including endangered whooping cranes.

Cost includes pontoon boat ride, rental of wet suit, mask, snorkel, fins and gratuities for boat crew, as well as entrance to Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park.  Departure time is very early so we can get out on the water to see more manatees.  Our day as a group will end at Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park at approximately 3:00 PM.  You may stay on your own until the park closes at 5:30 PM.

PLEASE NOTE:
Minimum number: 20.

Maximum number: 41 (capacity for two pontoon boats).
Minimum age:  5 years (or very good swimmer).
Cost for group that is tax exempt:  For 5-12 years, the cost is $75; and for 13 years and over, the cost is $80.

Cost for group that is NOT tax exempt:  We need to add $4 per person to cover taxes incurred during the day.  So, with tax for 5-12 years, the cost is $79; and for 13 years and over, the cost is $84.

BEGIN YOUR ADVENTURE
For the best manatee viewing opportunities, this adventure should be scheduled during winter months.
Creation Adventures may be scheduled any day of the week, Monday through Friday.  However, Fridays are generally the busiest for the dive shop and the hardest to schedule.  To visit our website calendar and check for available dates or currently scheduled adventures, click here.
