Florida Keys & Everglades - A Creationist Perspective
Come investigate the handiwork of God in the Florida Keys and Everglades! By popular request, we will drive our own vehicles instead of renting a motorcoach. Many participants want to stay in the Keys and Everglades after our time as a group is over and have an extended family vacation. On Friday afternoon we'll meet at Everglades Alligator Farm, where we'll have a unique, fun-filled educational experience. We'll see different species of crocodilians including the American Alligator, American Crocodile, and Spectacled Caiman. Other activities include animal shows and demonstrations as well as a hold-on-to-your-hat airboat ride through the Everglades sawgrass! Going places where no ordinary boat can go, we'll look for different species of fish, turtles, birds, plants, and alligators in their natural habitats.
Then we'll head for Everglades National Park (ENP), the largest protected sub-tropical wilderness in the continental US. Evidence here of the awesome work of our Creator is mind-boggling! ENP consists of more than one million acres of rivers of sawgrass, pineland communities, hardwood hammocks, and seldom-seen endangered wildlife. At the ENP Visitor Center, we'll see their educational displays, movie, and bookstore / gift shop. We’ll also hike the Anhinga Trail looking for native plants and animals (usually lots of birds and alligators!). On our way to the hotel, we'll stop at "Robert is Here" for world-famous exotic milkshakes.
On Saturday morning, we’ll leave early for John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, the first undersea park in the US. As we snorkel on the coral reef, we will gain great insight into the intricate workings of the Creator, Who specifically designed the many life forms to live symbiotically in this "city" beneath the sea. We are fortunate in Florida to be able to study these magnificient living monuments that give overwhelming evidence of our Ceator. No problem if you've never snorkeled before! While you do need to be a good swimmer, you do not need snorkeling experience. Our dive master will give snorkeling instructions on the boat as we head for the coral reef. Later, we'll tour the park's visitor center that features a 30,000 gallon saltwater aquarium and other exhibits, and we'll take a mangrove hike interpreting the park's unique marine environment.
